The Lasting Power of Dedication to Your Writing Path

How Renewed Commitment Transformed My Writing Journey

In 2024, I started writing under a different name. I convinced myself that by posting enough, people would read my stories, allowing me to become a self-published author—a wonderful prospect. However, I was oblivious to the fact that no one was actually engaging with my work.

It felt as though I was on the verge of giving up. I already had enough on my plate, with school, a family home to maintain, a job, and trying to establish a writing career. My life was in a never-ending cycle of trying to keep up with deadlines and adding something new to the calendar. I have lived like this for three years and completed college. I am now pursuing my bachelor’s degree in communication at the University of New Mexico (UNM) to advance my writing skills. I was just about to give up.

Knowing my purpose and what I’m trying to achieve is crucial. I must respect myself, my work ethic, and the work I put into my craft. It won’t always go as planned, but that’s all part of the process. The goal is to achieve balance—make solid decisions, work hard, and reserve personal time so you don’t burn out. When you don’t maintain that balance, losing motivation and not feeling connected to your purpose is simple.

Believing in oneself is essential since self-doubt is the greatest adversary of advancement. Second-guessing oneself constantly sows negativity, which only saps your energy, decreases productivity, and blurs your vision. Doubt makes it harder to finish what you started.

This understanding prevented me from abandoning my writing career. I reminded myself of why I had begun, acknowledged the difficulties, and chose persistence over failure. Writing is not only about success but also about growth, perseverance, and remaining dedicated to my passion. I will not allow doubt to control my destiny. Instead, I will continue to push, understanding that each challenge is one step closer to realizing my dream.

Here are 10 reasons why I decided to rebrand and not give up—I hope this inspires you, too!

1. Writing is my passion. I can’t see myself doing anything else as a career, so why would I give up on something I love?

2. I wasn’t providing myself with an equal opportunity. There are many ways to share my writing, and I was holding myself back by not exploring all of them.

3. Quality over quantity. I was too focused on pushing out content instead of ensuring each piece was truly valuable. That needed to change.

4. I want to live a digital nomad lifestyle. Writing allows me to travel, share my stories, and earn a living—everything I’ve always dreamed of doing.

5. Quitting too soon is unfair to yourself. If you don’t give your dreams time to grow, you’ll never know what could have been.

6. Success requires effort. Nothing worthwhile comes easily; I knew I had to work hard to achieve my goals.

7. Opportunities don’t just appear. If I wanted to create the life I envisioned, I would have to take action instead of waiting for something to happen.

8. I refuse to label myself a failure. Giving up would have meant settling for less than I deserved, and I wasn’t about to do that.

9. There’s always another way. If one strategy doesn’t work, I must adjust and try again, rather than quitting entirely.

10. Success feels fantastic. There’s no better feeling than achieving what you set out to do. If something isn’t working, tweak the approach, but never give up!

If you’re struggling with your goals, this serves as a reminder that a fresh perspective is sometimes all you need. Keep going!
